With nominations currently open for candidates wanting to stand in District, parish and town council elections within North Kesteven, a further vacancy has arisen for Lincolnshire County Council’s division of Eagle and Hykeham West.

If contested, this new vacancy will be subject to a by-election on Thursday, May 4, which will run alongside the other local elections already scheduled for that day.

The deadline for nominations for all local elections is 4pm on Tuesday, April 4. The application period for all 24 North Kesteven District Wards and all parish and town council across the area is already open and the period for the Eagle and Hykeham West LCC vacancy – which has arisen following the resignation of Cllr Dr Michael Thompson – opens on Monday, March 27.

Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate in any election can download the nomination forms from www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/elections2023, email nk-corporateandcivicsupportteam@n-kesteven.gov.uk or call 01529 308208 or 308209.

The completed forms are required to be hand-delivered to the District Council’s Sleaford offices, with an appointment preferred, between 10am and 4pm on working days only, and it is strongly advised that an appointment is made.

Information on all candidates will be published on Wednesday, April 5.

New government rules mean photo ID will be needed by anyone wanting to cast their vote in person at a polling station on May 4. People do not need photo ID to vote by post.

Anyone registered to vote, who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for a free voter ID at www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate before 25 April, or by completing a paper form.

Whichever way you want to vote, you can’t do so without being registered as an elector. Registration only takes five minutes online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
