Building excellence from around the District was recognised in the annual Building Control Awards held on Thursday, 7 June 2018.

The District Council’s commitment for excellence extends to ensuring the highest levels of safety and quality within the built environment. Through the Building Control Unit, it works to ensure health and safety of all people in and around buildings, their welfare and convenience, and promotes energy efficiency and full accessibility to all.


David Steels, Head of Service for Environment and Public Protection said: “We are proud to be able to celebrate the hard work and dedication that local builders, architects and owners put into their projects with the help of our Building Control Team. The team work closely with a number of projects across the district, and are well respected for the value for money service they provide.”

The winners will now go on to the regional finals taking place in Leicester in the summer.

The winners were:

  • Construction Professional of the Year - Matt Meanwell

  • Best Local Builder or Traditional Craftsperson - David Francis

  • Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development - Land Adj Fire Station, High Street, Brant Broughton

  • Best Public Service Building - the Chadwick Centre, International Bomber Command

  • Best Educational Building - the Chadwick Centre, International Bomber Command

  • Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion - Green Man Barns, Green Man Farm, Navenby.

  • Best New Housing Development (LARGE) - Lower Church Road, Skellingthorpe

  • Best New Small Housing Development winner - 122 Mill Lane, North Hykeham.

  • Best Individual New Home - Hatherton, Hall Wath, Bassingham

  • Best Commercial Project (Small) - Washingborough Hall Hotel

  • Best Commercial Project (Large) - The Mill, Hale Road, Heckington

  • Best Extension or Alteration to an Existing Home - Somerton Castle, Lowfields, Boothby Graffoe
