Council helps tenants evacuated after flooding

A flood in a top floor flat in Sleaford’s Church Lane in the early hours of Saturday morning led to all six flats in the block being evacuated.

The flats are owned by North Kesteven District Council and the housing repairs team are on site today (Monday) with contractors to assess the damage. All pipes and services are being checked as a precaution but it is thought the incident was a result of an issue at one of the flats.

Two households spent the weekend in bed and breakfast accommodation and the others stayed with friends and family. The housing team is keeping everyone informed and working hard to make sure people can move back to their homes as soon as it is safe to do so. It is hoped that the residents of three flats which weren’t damaged can return later today.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Richard Wright said: “We feel very sorry for all the families involved particularly as we are now in the run up to Christmas.

"Our building control and housing repairs team worked closely with colleagues in the fire and rescue service on Saturday to control the situation. Our next task is to ensure the properties are safe before tenants are invited to return as soon as possible.”
