Failing to provide relevant gas certificates has resulted in a landlord being ordered to pay more than £1,400.
North Kesteven District Council took action against Mr Simon Bullard of Millstream Road, Heighington after he failed to provide Housing Enforcement Officers with the current and previous 2 years gas certificates for one of his private rental properties.
Mr Bullard was interviewed under caution but could not provide an adequate explanation of why the certificates had not been provided.
The Council took the decision to prosecute for failing to comply with the notice, and the case was heard at Lincoln Magistrates Court, where Mr Bullard pleaded guilty and fined £750, but also asked to pay £75 victim surcharge and £679.81 in costs.
David Steels, Head of Service for Environment and Public Protection said: “The Council has a duty to make sure that private rented homes are safe and secure for their tenants and will take action when regulations are not complied with.”
The District Council has a Safe as Houses initiative to not only protect tenants to ensure that every home is safe and healthy, but to support landlords by providing advice on the standards needed to be met to provide quality housing which is warm, secure and free from safety risks.
