Sports, leisure and physical activity

The Council's Sport and Physical Activity Strategy aims to inspire more people to be more active, more often. It will assist with the delivery of the NK Plan for our communities by enhancing the wellbeing, safety and health of all NK residents, and to support a sustainable and flourishing future.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented communities with many challenges. However, one positive outcome was the clear emphasis on the importance of sport and physical wellbeing which is essential for both our physical and mental health.

Local authorities play a vital role in community sport and activities, and are the largest funders of sport, leisure, parks and open spaces. The Council has invested 7 million pounds in leisure facilities in recent years, with very high customer satisfaction.
