Nationally the Act on CO2 campaign has launched ‘drive 5 miles less a week’. Together if we all do this we could collectively save around 2.70 million tonnes of CO2 per year in the UK.
Top tips for eco driving
- Drive smoothly and at a lower speed to reduce fuel consumption.
- Don’t brake sharply and accelerate at a steady pace
- Make sure you are in the right gear, change to a higher gear as soon as possible at 2,500 rpm for petrol cars and 2,000 rpm for diesel cars; a vehicle travelling at 37 mph in third gear uses 25 per cent more fuel than it would at the same speed in fifth gear
