Drainage law changed on the 1st October 2011. From this date, Anglian Water are responsible for taking waste water from loos and sinks. If you’re connected to the public sewer system, Anglian Water will be taking ownership of any shared pipes that connects to the main sewer, even if its within your property boundary.
You’ll still have responsibility for those pipes within your property boundary that take waste water away from only your home. Any pipes which don’t connect to Anglian Waters system will also remain in private ownership.
More information is available on the Anglian Water Website. This includes diagrams explaining how this change affects you.
If you have any queries on how this change affects you or if you have a problem with your drainage system that appears to be included in this transfer, contact Anglian Water for further advice.
The Environmental Health Team at NKDC can also advise on drainage issues.
