Dangers of building sites and empty buildings

A mixture of curiosity, or daring one another to take risks, or by just not realising the potential dangers means kids are unwittingly taking a step that could lead to serious harm to themselves or others

Empty and derelict buildings are a magnet for people to explore and play in. These sites are full of hidden dangers such as weak roofs and staircases and broken glass, rusty railings and holes in the ground.

Because these are such dangerous places, we urge parents to talk to young people to ensure that they do not enter such locations, as they are not only placing themselves at risk, but endangering others.

Not only is going onto building sites and into derelict buildings, there is also a risk that they are committing a criminal or civil offence, and could be prosecuted.
