Being a local councillor can be a very rewarding experience and offers a unique opportunity to make a difference to your local community and to help shape services which affect the people that live in, work in and visit North Kesteven. Becoming a Candidate
Anyone considering standing as a candidate or an agent is strongly advised to read guidance and information provided by the Electoral Commission which can be found on the Electoral Commission website.
In addition to meeting at least one qualification, you must ensure that you are not disqualified from standing. Please refer to the Electoral Commission’s guidance on qualifications and disqualifications on the Electoral Commissions website.
Nominations
If you intend to stand as a candidate you must complete a nomination paper, home address form, consent to nomination and any other relevant forms contained in the nomination pack.
Nomination packs are available to download from this page. Packs are also available to download on the Electoral Commissions website.
A printed nomination pack can be requested from Electoral Services at North Kesteven District Council by contacting 01529 308352 or by emailing elections@n-kesteven.gov.uk.

Delivery of Nomination Papers
Candidates wishing to stand for election must submit nomination papers to the Returning Officer between 10am to 4pm on any working day from Thursday 9 November to Friday 17 November 2023 at the following location:
Members Room, North Kesteven District Council Offices, Kesteven Street, Sleaford NG34 7EF
To make an appointment to submit your formal nomination paper, please either:
- Phone the Electoral Services Team on 01529 308352 during office hours only
- Email elections@n-kesteven.gov.uk giving your name, contact details and number of nomination papers to be submitted.
Priority will be given to those who have made an appointment. If you do not, you may have to wait to be seen.
Delivery of the nomination paper, home address form and consent to nomination MUST be by hand and can be by the candidate or their representative. Whilst the other necessary documents may be sent by post it is clearly desirable for all documentation to be delivered with the nomination paper.
Anyone wishing to have an informal check of nomination papers prior to formal submission can email them to nominations@n-kesteven.gov.uk.
Campaigning
As with national elections, you and your campaigners should also have regard to the Electoral Commission's Code of Conduct for Campaigners, which outlines what is, and what is not, acceptable behaviour at polling stations and in the community during the lead up to polling day.
