Council Tax bands

How Council Tax is worked out

All properties were valued and put into a ‘valuation band’ - in England these bands are based on their value on 1 April 1991, not their current value. The valuation band determines how much Council Tax you pay.

The list below shows the different bands.

If you have any questions about how your property is assessed, you can contact the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) at gov.uk/contact-voa. If you are unable to use the online service you can also contact the VOA on 0300 050 1501, or get in touch with your local VOA office.

  • Band A Up to £40,000
  • Band B £40,001 to £52,000
  • Band C £52,001 to £68,000
  • Band D £68,001 to £88,000
  • Band E £88,001 to £120,000
  • Band F £120,001 to £160,000
  • Band G £160,001 to £320,000
  • Band H Over £320,000

You can check the band of any property on the Valuation Office Website. You can check the charge for each band against locations within North Kesteven by going to our What is Council Tax and how much is it? webpage.

You might need to contact the VOA if you think your Council Tax Band is wrong. You can find more about when you can challenge your band and what you need to do at gov.uk/challenge-council-tax-band. If you challenge your band, you must continue to pay council tax at your current band until your appeal is decided.
