The Council have produced a Shopfront Design Guide to provide guidance on shopfront and advertisement design to owners, developers, retailers and all those involved in the planning process.
This Shopfront Design Guide aims to support good design decisions across North Kesteven District by being clear about the expected design standards for historic shopfronts. It provides practical advice for shop owners, architects and other involved parties to develop sympathetic and positive designs and preserve positive historic features.
Better shopfronts can improve not only individual businesses but contribute to an overall improvement to a street attracting more shoppers and visitors to an area. There are historic shopfronts throughout North Kesteven district, in historic villages, along main roads, with a concentration on historic shops in Sleaford town centre. The design principles outlined in this guide apply to shops all over the district and may even be useful when renovating former shops-now residential properties which retain their details from their original use.
The guide will be used to support further grant and funding opportunities across the district. Similar initiatives in the district have seen nearly £1 million of grants deliver and offered in the district since 2017.
The current guidance has gone through public consultation and is fully adopted. The Guidance will be used as a material consideration within the planning system.
