Independent Person for Standards

If you are interested in playing an important role in promoting and maintaining high standards of ethical conduct in the district of North Kesteven, you are invited to apply for the position of Independent Person. Support and training will be given, and a stipend of £1,200 per annum.

The Standards Committee oversees the ethical standards of elected and co-opted members of the District Council and parish/town councils and promote high standards of conduct.

The Independent Person supports the Monitoring Officer and Standards Committee by providing an independent perspective on the Council’s ethical framework as well as having an active role in the management and conduct of member complaints.  The role of the Independent Person also includes involvement in disciplinary action against a Council’s statutory officers (i.e. Head of Paid Service, Chief Finance Officer or Monitoring Officer). This will involve the appointment of a panel of at least two independent persons for the purpose of advising the Council on matters relating to the dismissal of these officers.
