The Transfer Incentive Scheme (TIS) is an initiative that assists tenants to move from a property that is too big and/or expensive for them and may no longer meet their needs. The scheme is to help those who may no longer need a larger property and wish to move.
There are lots of reasons why accommodation becomes unsuitable such as needs for adaptations due to ill health, having spare bedrooms that affect finances due to the extra charges associated with the spare room subsidy, location when tenants may no longer are able to drive, causing them to lose independence and become more isolated in certain areas, or even no longer being able to cope with the upkeep both internal & external of a larger property.
In some circumstances adaptations are not always the better option, and in some cases, your needs could be better met by providing you with a move to a more suitable property.
If you have thought about moving & downsizing but not known how to go about it or thought it too expensive or stressful, the Transfer incentive Scheme may be the option for you.
Here at North Kesteven we want to support you with that move and make it happen.
The scheme can provide the following:
- £600 for each bedroom you are giving up with an additional amount of £1000 towards your moving costs
- Support from a Tenancy Sustainment Officer who can support you with a move, making necessary arrangements, provide advice & assistance where required, support you to clear your property, arrange your move and generally aid the process for you
- Subject to circumstances, we may also be able to arrange redecoration of new property, support with removals etc.
If you feel that you might wish to consider moving and would like some additional advice or information on how to access this Scheme, please contact either the Neighbourhood Team or Housing Options Team via email at housingoptions@n-kesteven.gov.uk or by telephone at 01529 414155.
