Ways to get involved

We want to give everyone the opportunity to share their voice, our menu of involvement is designed so you can get involved 'on the go'. If you would like to know more please don’t hesitate to contact Tenant_Participation@n-kesteven.gov.uk. This might be a quick survey, poll or if you have more time, it may be to join one of our other groups as listed below.

Menu of involvement

All tenants can inform and engage with the us as the landlord – this is called 'tenant engagement'. This might be in various forms including social media, at the tenant Annual Forum, and taking part in surveys.

Tenants might feed into our scrutiny panel, take part in tenant association, share their tenant voice or become a tenant champion. These feed into our 'Tenant Liaison Panel', which in turn feeds into council decision making.

Tenant Liaison Panel (TLP)

The Panel is made up tenant representatives and elected members who together consider upcoming strategy/policy and regulation reviews and use these to form on-going work for the working groups and Scrutiny Panel (TRG). They also oversee all recommendations offered from the Scrutiny Panel (TRG) and reflect on them in the TLP. TRG update the TLP on the on-going work and involvement by the varying Tenant Association (TA) groups. The TLP meet four times a year.

Tenant Representative Group (TRG)

The Tenant Representative Group (TRG) involves a panel of tenants who meet regularly to scrutinise the landlord function, give feedback on the services provided, offer opinion and suggestion of how services are delivered. The TRG consider reports, tenant information and leaflets, advising on behalf of NKDC tenants what they would like to see and how things should be delivered.

Working Groups

Working groups are formed when there is a need for tenants to review something in greater detail relating to a specific topic. They are similar to focus groups, and are open for all tenants to join. These groups meet temporarily for a few sessions in order to provide feedback to the council. They are ‘Task and Finish’ groups, running for a specific time-frame until the aim has been accomplished. To get as many tenants to be a part of a working group as possible, we will try to make it convenient for you, such as by meeting online and take everyone’s availability into account. When a working group is being formed, it will be advertised through Tenant Voice, Tenants’ Associations, email, and Facebook, and offer an opportunity for tenants to become involved in an ad-hoc (drop in and out) basis.

Tenants' Associations and Tenant Voice

A Tenants’ Association (TA) is a group made up of North Kesteven tenants who live in a particular place or area. Each TA represents other tenants living in that area on important matters and acts on their behalf, encouraging tenants to work together to continually improve North Kesteven District Council’s housing services and its service delivery. This also involves working with local people, to encourage engagement for those tenants that like face-to-face communication and a support network.

In areas where there are a few tenants, a tenant can become a ‘Tenant Voice’ who are individual tenants who talk to the council on behalf of their community, and contribute ideas about how to make things better in their home and within their neighbourhood. They would be consulted with in the same way you would at a TA. Tenants' Associations meet four times a year.

Tenant Champions

Tenant Champions is a programme that is advertised through email, Facebook, and TAs, giving residents the opportunity to request and attend estate walks within their local area. Estate walks are set up in various areas over the district and are hosted by the Resident Engagement team with the Housing Officer for that local area also in attendance. District Councillors and Police Community Support Officers may also be invited to attend. Estate walks give tenants an opportunity to walk around the area they live in with their Housing Officer and the Resident Engagement team, discussing changes they would like to make to the area, sharing ideas, etc. Any suggestions or changes discussed are then reviewed and approved by the relevant department. You can request an estate walk through your local Tenant Association or alternatively contact Resident Engagement for more information by telephone or email tenant_participation@n-kesteven.gov.uk. Tenant Champions can pick and choose when to be involved.

Tenant Surveys

Surveys and polls will be sent to those tenants that have expressed an interest in becoming involved by our NK Housing Facebook page, this offers short and quick engagement that can then help to suggest things for the working groups to look at or to help shape a service.

Annual Forum

An opportunity for all tenants to come and learn more about what we have been doing over the last 12 months and what we have planned for the year ahead. Tenants would have the opportunity to meet the housing team and other officers, ask our staff questions about the services they provide and look at what the year ahead looks like for our tenants.

Interest in Tenant Involvement

We are currently looking for tenants to get involved in the opportunities we offer. The Resident Engagement Team supports tenants to become representatives. If this is something you feel passionate about and would like to represent your area, please email tenant_participation@n-kesteven.gov.uk or call us on 01529 414155 and ask for the Resident Engagement Team.

We would also really appreciate our tenants’ input on a wide range of policies, strategies, and processes that we are developing now and in the future. If you would like to be involved in a smaller capacity and are interested in sharing your thoughts on some of the policies we currently have in development, we want to hear from you!

If you are willing to be part of this opportunity and are happy to be contacted about it via email, please complete our form to tell us your name, address, and email address so that our Housing Team can contact you. We would also like to contact you about other ways in which you can continue to be involved as a tenant and participate in council decisions that interest you. You will be able to opt out at any time, and while your input would be appreciated, there will never be any pressure or expectation to take part.
