Radon is a colourless, odourless and tasteless natural gas found in soil and rocks. Levels vary throughout North Kesteven from parish to parish and even from house to house in the same street.
Part 3 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 requires us to take reasonable steps to investigate and, if appropriate, take formal action in the event of justified complaints of statutory nuisance.
Filthy or verminous premises are properties that are considered verminous (including rats, mice, eggs, larvae and pupae of insects or parasites) and/ or in such a filthy condition as to be prejudicial to health.
The Council may be able to take action if an overgrown garden is providing harbourage for pests such as rats or mice. We may also be able to act if the garden conditions are having a detrimental impact on the quality of life of residents in the locality.
