Polling District and Polling Places Review 2023

North Kesteven District Council has a statutory duty to carry out a full review of all polling districts and polling places across North Kesteven to ensure they are accessible and convenient places for voting.

Notice of conclusion and final polling arrangements

The Polling District and Polling Place Review 2023 has now been completed. A Notice for the Conclusion of the Review and the Schedule of Final Polling Arrangements are available to view as PDF documents under the downloads section.

The final proposals were considered at a meeting of Council on 25 January 2024. The report and final proposals are available to view on the NKDC democracy webpage. The Polling District and Polling Place Review 2023 report is listed as item 10 on the agenda.

All comments and representations received during the consultation period are incorporated within the Council report.

Proposals for future polling districts and polling places

The draft proposals, which were subject to the period of consultation from 8 November 2023, can be viewed on the PDF available in the downloads section titled ‘NKDC Proposed changes for Polling District and Polling Place Review 2023’.

These draft proposals were shared with stakeholders and other interested parties for comment as part of the consultation process.  The consultation was open from 8 November to 12 December 2023.

Terms used in the review

  • A polling district is an area created by the division of a ward into smaller parts, within which a polling place is established. In areas with parishes, each parish should be its own polling district.
  • A polling place is a building or area in which polling stations will be located. As far as possible, these should be situated within the polling district for which they are designated.
  • A polling station is a room or building where voting actually takes place. There can be more than one polling station in a polling place, which is common in many areas. Wherever possible, there should be no more than 2250 electors allocated to a polling station.

Notice of Review

The review formally commenced on the 8 November 2023, with the publication of the Notice of Review. The Notice of Review is available to view under the downloads tab on the right-hand side.

Changes to Parliamentary constituencies in North Kesteven

From the next General election, the district of North Kesteven will be split between the three Parliamentary constituency boundaries of: Sleaford and North Hykeham; Grantham and Bourne; and Lincoln. The changes to the boundaries have been taken into account as part of this review.

A change to parliamentary boundaries does not affect the services provided by the Council. A constituency boundary is the area an MP is elected to represent in the House of Commons. It does not change your local authority boundaries, so you will continue to receive services from North Kesteven even if your constituency changes.
