Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority Mayoral Election and Lincolnshire County Council Elections on Thursday 1 May 2025

The scheduled election of all councillors for Lincolnshire County Council will be held on 1 May 2025, together with the first election to the new post of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority Mayor. Polling stations across the North Kesteven District Council area will open at 7am and close at 10pm on this day.

Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority Mayoral Election

Voters across the Greater Lincolnshire area, which includes North-East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire, will vote for the first elected mayor for the area on 1 May, who will lead the newly created Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority.

Lincolnshire County Council Elections

The election of the Lincolnshire County Councillors who represent the 11 county divisions within North Kesteven will also take place on 1 May; namely for the divisions of Bassingham & Welbourn, Eagle & Hykeham West, Heckington, Hykeham Forum, Metheringham Rural, Potterhanworth & Coleby, Ruskington, Sleaford, Sleaford Rural, Waddington & Hykeham East and Washingborough.

Key Election Dates

Close of nominations

Nominations for the Lincolnshire County Council elections begin on Wednesday 19 March and for the mayoral election on Thursday 20 March. The deadline to submit nomination papers for both elections is 4pm on Wednesday 2 April 2025.

Register to vote 

The deadline to register is midnight on Friday 11 April 2025. Visit the GOV.UK website to register.

Apply to vote by post

The deadline for receipt of new applications is 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025.  This deadline is also for cancellations and amendments of all current postal and proxy votes.

The deadline for receipt of new applications is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.  You can apply online for some forms of proxy vote, including for a specific election on the GOV.UK website.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

Polling day

Polling day is from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Poll cards

Poll cards will be issued to all registered electors as soon as possible after the Notice of Election has been published in March.

If you have not received a card by the first week of April it may mean you are not registered. If you have moved in the last few months you need to ensure you have re-registered at your new address. Please phone Customer Services on 01529 414155 if you have not received a poll card or if you are not sure if you are registered to vote at your current address.

Postal votes

If you usually receive a postal vote, you will receive a postal poll card before the postal vote pack.

Postal votes will be issued as soon as possible after the close of nominations and are sent by first class post. However, please note that if you apply close to the postal vote deadline, your postal vote pack may not be posted until the Friday before polling week. Postal voters will be sent one postal pack covering both elections.

For all elections if you hand deliver any postal vote, including your own, to a polling station or the NKDC office in Sleaford, you will be required to complete a prescribed form. Any postal votes delivered without the completed prescribed form will be rejected.

Postal votes can be accepted at the NKDC office in Sleaford during office opening hours only.

You will not be able to put any postal votes through the Council office letterbox as they will be rejected.

Proxy Voting

If you have appointed a proxy to vote on your behalf at your allocated polling station, your proxy will be sent a poll card.

Voter ID in polling stations

All voters at a polling station will need to show an accepted form of photographic identification (photo ID) to be able to cast their vote.

If you do not have any of the accepted forms of ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate on GOV.UK by 5pm on Wednesday 23 April 2025. A Voter Authority Certificate is a free photographic identification document specific for the purposes of voting.

Statement of Persons Nominated

The Deputy Returning Officer is required to publish a Statement of Persons Nominated for each county division in the North Kesteven area no later than 4pm on Thursday 3 April 2025, which will be added to download from this webpage when available. North-East Lincolnshire Council will publish the Statement of Persons Nominated for the mayoral election. These will give details of all nominated candidates for each respective county division and the mayoral election.

Please Note: The candidates for the elections will not be known until this time. We do not have any details or information about any candidates standing for either the Lincolnshire County Council elections or the mayoral election.  It is the responsibility of candidates to provide and circulate their own election material as part of their election campaign.
