Sheffield-artist Peachzz and an assistant created the artwork, working from March 3 and completing before the end of that week. You can watch a video here on Facebook of Peachzz talking about the design and artistic process behind the mural.
Council Leader Cllr Richard Wright said: “We couldn’t be more pleased with the new mural at 10 Boston Road and to see so many people share their enthusiasm and pride about it. It’s been so warmly welcomed, with lots of people stopping to complement the artist Peachzz during the works and joining the positivity around it. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund seeks to build pride of place, and with so many positive comments around the mural it’s certainly amplified that.
“The mural reflects our shared local heritage and pays tribute to the beauty of our local wildlife and biodiversity. It’s also about changing people’s views on what high streets should offer, and importantly it builds on Sleaford’s position as a cultural hub in the heart of Lincolnshire and one which the Council continues to support and invest in. The mural joins our now award-winning RiverLight Festival and fantastic arts and leisure venues locally, the town’s many mosaics and its artists and art shops, the heritage and art trails there are to enjoy, and much more which all sustain and enhance this sense of local creativity. In fact, recent figures show that engagement with the arts in person in North Kesteven is above both the regional and national average.
“I’d like to thank the artist Peachzz, the building owner and Treeline Dental as the business there, for enabling the mural to happen together with us, through UK Shared Prosperity Fund monies and a contribution from the owner. The building has also benefitted from repairs and restoration to its historic shopfront through our Sleaford Shopfront Grant Scheme supported by UKSPF funding and owner contributions, while the mural also complements our recent UKSPF-funded public realm improvements at Monument Gardens and nearby Handley Monument.”
