The hub: proud supporters of the Breastfeeding Friendly project

The Hub, Sleaford encourage and support parents and children of the district, via their support of the Breastfeeding Friendly Project and wide variety of family friendly activities.

What inspired you as a venue to join the Breastfeeding Friendly project?

We think it’s important that everyone feels completely comfortable and welcome here at the Hub and that’s why we wanted to be part of the Breastfeeding Friendly Project. We know that sometimes mothers can feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in a public place, and we wanted to make it clear that we are a safe and welcoming space and being part of the project helps us do that.

Describe how your venue supports/ encourages the Breastfeeding Friendly project?

We proudly display the sticker on our entrance, and we have baby changing facilities available on the Ground Floor of our building too. There’s always more we could do to shout about the fact that we’re part of the project and we aim to do more to let people know we are a Breastfeeding Friendly venue.

Why is it important to your venue that you support the Breastfeeding- Friendly project?

It’s vital that we support mothers and their right to feed their babies in whatever way they see fit. We’ve unfortunately seen in the past a stigma around breastfeeding in public spaces and we hope that by showing our support people will feel comfortable, safe, and supported here at the Hub.

Why do you think it’s important that businesses and venues openly welcome and encourage Breastfeeding on site?

It’s so important that mothers feel safe and respected wherever they go and the more venues and businesses that support this project, the truer that is. Hopefully it will get to the point that it’s not necessary to have to advertise that public spaces are breastfeeding friendly; it will be a given. But, for that to be the case, we all need to show our support now.

What activities/initiatives does The Hub run for parents and children?

We’ve got lots for parents and children. We have an Activity Hub in our gallery, full of free craft and arts activities to have a go at, as well as a family activity area, magnet wall and Pea Run in our café. Every school holiday we run a family workshop on a Tuesday and are launching our Hub Dance Tinies sessions from Tuesday 4 October, a fun-filled hour of music, dance, storytelling, and creativity. Other regular activities for parents and children include our Home Education Workshop groups for home educated children, Creative Dance Classes and each season we offer a variety of other activities tailored to families and children.

Moving forwards how is your business further supporting parents?

Where feasible our staff are offered the opportunity to work flexibly, allowing for an improved work/life balance. In terms of our visitors, we have a range of workshops, activities and events that are aimed at children and families covering a wide spectrum of craft, design, and dance. We are always looking to improve the service we provide and are open to suggestions for improvements we can make.
