Refuse and Recycling

Our Priority

  • Minimise waste, maximise energy efficiency and promote sustainable development

Waste Management

Domestic refuse is collected fortnightly in wheeled bins from the edge of the property. Separate services are available for the collection of bulky domestic and electrical items.  To find out more about this service please look in the household waste section (found on the right hand side column of this screen)

Thanks to the residents of North Kesteven, the rate of household recycling has increased significantly since the introduction of a kerbside recycling service in April 2002. Before this time the household recycling rate was around 3% of the total amount of waste collected. Over the years the recycling rate has increased:

2002/2003 - 16.1%

2003/2004 - 20.1%

2004/2005 - 39.2%

2005/2006 - 51.5%

2006/2007 - 55.5%

2007/2008 - 55.94%

2008/2009 - 55.7%

Twice your efforts have led to this council being the bet recyclers in the country.

There are also a number of Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) and Recycling Banks located across the district where householders can take any additional recyclable material.  The locations of these can be found in the more information section below.

Other services, such as the removal of abandoned vehicles, the collection of hazardous and clinical waste are also provided.

North Kesteven District Council is a registered supporter of the Recycle Now campaign. The aim of the campaign is to help both public and private organisations in the promotion of recycling and waste minimisation in their local community. For more information about the campaign please click on the link at the bottom of the page.

In our document library you will find the following:

Request form for additional collection service ie. bulky household waste.

Request form for collection of electrical items.

These services are available to the householder.

It should be noted that the above 'request forms' cannot be completed electronically. Should you wish to make an application for the collection of bulky wastes and/or electrical items, please print a copy of the relevant document, complete and send via the postal system.
