Saunters - Walk 2 Metheringham

From the cross in Metheringham village centre walk down Church Walk and past the church continuing straight on after the cemetery along a field edge footpath towards Blankney.

Carry straight on through two kissing gates towards the village cricket green with the village directly in front. Continue around the cricket green and exit onto the main road in the opposite corner. Turn left into the village and left again at the T junction.

Continue down this road past the Post Office and farm cottages.

On leaving the village turn right at the next T junction and over the hump back bridge. Opposite the 'Stepping Out' car park turn left into the woodland and onto the old carriageway.

Continue through woodland and the beech lined carriageway back towards Metheringham.
At the end of the carriageway opposite the railway station cross over the road and turn left towards the village.
At the bend again cross over the road and continues straight on towards Drury Street. Turn right and back onto the High Street and then village centre.

The carriageway through the woodland from the railway station is not a public right of way and is being used with permission of the landowner. Please keep to the pathway.

Brisk walking is an ideal way to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. It also makes you healthier all round and gives you more energy to do the things you enjoy in life.

If you are not used to exercise it is important to take it slowly at first and build up your fitness gradually. Aim to walk for at least 20 minutes two or three times a week.

Check your body - make sure that your heart is beating faster than usual, but not racing, your breathing is deeper and more rapid than usual, but not uncontrolled. If you can talk to someone easily while walking, you are exercising at the right level.

If you have any of these symptoms while walking: pain, unusual fatigue, dizziness, feel sick or unwell - STOP! If the symptoms are persistent, or come back later, or if you are worried about them, see your doctor.

Be kind to your skin - the warmth of the sun can make us feel happy, healthy and relaxed. Enjoy these good feelings without the ill effects of over-exposure. Avoid the midday sun, use sunscreens, cover up with loose clothing and a wide brimmed hat.

Footwear - you don't need any special equipment for walking, just a good pair of strong and comfortable shoes, which support your heels and arches.

Safety - if walking in the dark, make sure you can be seen. Try to find someone to accompany you. If walking alone try to let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to return. Walkers using this leaflet do so at their own risk.
