We know we need to cut waste and increase the amount we recycle. For over eight years the residents of North Kesteven have worked hard to recycle and compost more, achieving over 53% for the past five years.
Almost all households have three wheeled bins which are collected fortnightly. To take account of season conditions the brown bin is collected every four weeks from November to February inclusive.
- Green lidden bin for dry recyclable material such as paper, newspapers, cardboard, cans, plastic, clothes and glass bottles and jars.
- Brown bin for garden waste.
- Black bin for waste going to landfill that cannot go in either of the other two bins
Follow the 'Collecting Household Waste' link to check your bin collection day, see what can go in each bin or click on each of the three bin colours in the list above, find out how to get a larger green lidded recycling bin, and there are still odd unwanted items going in the wrong bins that can contaminate the whole load please see the 'Cutting out contamination' link for more information.
We also collect other types of waste from households. Use the Collecting bulky items link on the right handside or the links in the list below to find out how to arrange a collection of these items:
Household Waste Recycling Centres and Recycling Banks
To find out your nearest centre, when it is open and what you can take along follow the link to Household Recycling Centres on the right hand side. There are a number of recycling banks that accept glass available around the District, to see the locations use the link for Recycling Banks on the right hand side menu.
Reducing and recycling more waste
Thanks to the efforts of our residents we have achieved one of the best recycling rates in the country for a number of years. The landfill sites are still running out of space across the county, so we still need to do even more to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill in future. Follow this link to find out more what about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
