North Kesteven District Council is committed to ensuring that food and drink intended for human consumption, which is produced, stored, distributed, handled or consumed within the district is without risk to the health or safety of the consumer.
A small team of Environmental Health Officers and support staff carries out this work. When you contact the Food Team you will be directed to an appropriate officer for assistance.
There are currently about 1000 registered food businesses in the district and the members of the Food Team inspect them all at regular intervals.
We also deal with food complaints. We investigate complaints about food and food premises. Some complaints are about food produced locally and others about food produced by national and international companies.
We take food samples, which are sent for microbiological testing. Most samples are taken on a random basis and are used to check that standards of food safety are being maintained.
The Food Team works with food businesses to achieve compliance with legislation through inspection, education and the provision of information. Where enforcement action is necessary, officers take appropriate action dependent on the seriousness of the breach of the law, guided by our Enforcement Policy
We strive to achieve 100% of the programmed Food Safety inspections and we responded to all food complaints within the targeted response times.
The Trading Standards department at Lincolnshire County Council deals with labelling and compositional requirements.
